The doctor cannot account for my infertility; can acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine offer an explanation?

The short answer is…. potentially yes.

Chinese Medicine and acupuncture are forms of energetic medicine. The theory in which it is based and consequently the method of diagnosis is therefore very different to that of medical science. Consistent with its Taoist roots, Chinese medicine accounts for the human body and health and a metaphorical and often poetic way. Often terms such as wind, heat, damp, as well as yin and yang can be used to explain problems with bodily functions. Because of this unique approach, Chinese medical theory will have an alternate explanation on issues related to fertility.

The diagnostic method used in Chinese medicine is very sensitive and takes into consideration subclinical symptoms. In theory, it has the ability to detect imbalances in the body before medical science and before the symptoms are even experienced by the patient. For example, doctors can often give the diagnosis of “unexplained infertility”. In contrast an energetic model such as Chinese medicine may be able to offer an explanation.

If you experiencing a fertility issue, it will be worth your while to come in and have a chat with Dr Kirk Wilson at the Fertility & IVF Acupuncture Clinic. He will explain to you the model of Chinese Medicine and help you decide if you would like to venture down this path. Please be aware the mechanisms of Chinese Medicine and it is yet to be scientifically proven. Explanations and the treatment of fertility are strictly theoretical.
